Monkhouse Hill was chosen to feature in Cumbria Tourism's national marketing campaign (the bedroom on the right above!) as a result of our efforts to provide everything a young family could need from a holiday property.

Children will let off steam on the outdoor play area - complete with swings, slide, rope wall, tunnel and secret house. Or take them on a tour of the 5 acres of enclosed landscaped grounds.

Whilst at Monkhouse Hill you have full access to the North Lakes Spa in Penrith. Young children are welcome - there is toddler paddling area next to the the shallow end of the main pool. And parents will enjoy escaping to the steam room or saunas!

The basics - cots (with bedding), high chairs, stairgates etc can all be ordered in advance and will be set up for your arrival.

But it doesn't stop there. If you've not got enough space in the car, or if you just forget something, you are welcome to make use of our 'Baby and Toddler Rescue Cupboard'. This contains just about everything you could think of - baby monitor sets, nightlights, bed protectors, baby bath, potty, playpen, bed guards, backpack carrier, pushchair, bouncy chair, fireguards and lots more. All can be requested in advance and borrowed free of charge (subject to availability).

A fresh selection of toys always ensures a good start to a holiday. So order one of our age-specific toy boxes before you arrive, and watch their faces  as they empty the box!  Also available, and also free of charge,  are mega-sets of Bob the Builder, Happy Street etc.

All cottages have a  digital TV with DVD player and a wide selection of children's DVDs available on a 'sale or return' basis. We also have lots of kids' books to borrow.

Within a short drive of Monkhouse Hill you'll find a range of attractions for young children - from indoor play centres and working farms with animals to feed, to narrow guage railways and cruises on the lakes more

Get the kids to bed, then 'eat out' in your cottage from one of our Pre-Arrival Order Service menus. Or let us arrange a babysitter for you to have a child free night out at one of our great local pubs.
