Visit England award four specialist marques for establishments which welcome and provide full facilities for families, walkers, cyclists, and pets.
Monkhouse Hill welcomes all these groups, and has been awarded all four marques.
Monkhouse Hill is assessed annually by Visit England against the national quality scheme.
All cottages have been awarded either four or five stars. All are at Gold Award level, reflecting the top end position of each in their respective bands. Most also have the level 1 mobility award.
Cumbria Tourism run an annual competition to find the county’s best in a number of categories, including Self Catering Holiday of the Year.
We have either won or been a runner up in these awards in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015. We have also received a National Siver award from Visit England.
Following rigorous examinations of our environmental practices, we have retained a Green Tourism Business Scheme Gold Award for the last 5 years. We are members of the Lake District Foundation and support ‘Fix the Fells’ and ‘Red Squirrel NW’ through guest donation and a share of our booking revenues.
